Just found a massive tick on my dogs neck....totally gorged. What's the best procedure to pull it off? I know if on a person you're suppose to use special tweezers...same thing with a dog? Had one on another dog before but it just fell off. Not happy about this as she is on Frontline.

Suggestions to remove?

Frontline doesn't prevent ticks from taking hold and sucking blood. It prevents any new ticks from being hatched. If a tick gets on your dog there is near nothing to keep it from taking a drink.

Take a pair of tweezers and get as close to the skin as you can and pull slowly until it's out. Some skin may come with it, don't sweat it.

Pulled out and it looks like the head came with it. The last time we had one the vet asked me to bring it in for analysis...was sent to MSU for testing. Think I'll do the same with this one.

I remove them from the hounds by soaking a cotton ball with rubbing alchohol and holding right on the tick until it backs out. Then I rub the spot good to disinfect.
