It's pretty obvious that the snowline being created over the last 72hrs in MN/WI and parts of MI has nothing to do with birds moving into and through the area.

Must be some of the dedgoose East/West migration? :) But I thought that only happened after Thanksgiving when the bay is frozen solid. So I don't know what direction they came from, but when I saw them they were heading in a 360 deg. rotation NSE&W.

All joking aside, it was very nice to see over here. Got my heart rate up a bit while I sat along side the road and watched them circle several times. :dizzy: The only thing I could think of other than thats sweet was; I wish I was under them in a layout ready to open up a can of whoop ***.

Maybe next week in Ohio I can only hope.

Had an east wind here in IL, in which this time of year, E wind usually indicates snow. Seen more birds move into the area, shot 4 man limits of mallards both saturday and sunday. Seen more mallards yesterday.

The only thing predictable is this thread. Hard to believe there were no ducks around during regular season. Maybe it just sucks that bad over there...who knows?

Big word for a bay hunter. :evilsmile
There were ducks here during the regular season Jack. Nobody is denying that fact Jack. There are ducks here year round.... you just now figuring this out ? The bay has year round birds as well. Our October numbers in SW MI counties, which means west of Jackson of Jackson County and south of Allegan (the areas I prowl around in) It is hard to find a good hunt after the first weekend or two of the season start. It gets real old spending thousands on duck hunting equipment, thousands in fuel costs to scout and hunt, only to be told we need to invest a ton more cash and hunt more of the state. We could easily have as good of hunting as the bay or the east side of the state gets if we ran to the middle of Dec at the min. And that's a fact Jack.

Out of curiosity, what mythical creatures live in your fantasy land?

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but that's like saying where I live in the central lower penninsula (the pit of the earth for waterfowl) can be as good as the bay. It won't EVER be as good here as the bay...dont' care what dates you pick. For starters, we don't have the water. Nor are we in any historical flight path through the state.

Now I would tend to agree that your personal hunting could possibly improve a lot if the season ran into the middle of Dec, but as good as the bay? I think you're in the same boat as where I live...you couldn't ever be AS GOOD AS the bay.

And for the record, I also have to do A LOT of driving to get into decent waterfowling. Typically I drive a minimum of 45 minutes one way, and often as much as 2 hours one way, to get to decent (once in a while great) hunting.

Behaving or occurring in a way that is expected.

Look, I fully understand Michigans unpredictable weather. I remember a few years ago being locked up by turkey day. I am only 28 but I can tell that we don't get near the winters or early freeze ups that we use to. If anything I would say it is really rare anymore to be froze out by turkey day.
Yep, I agree, noooow, if we could only get the guys that set the season dates to get their heads out of you know where, we might be getting some place....sorry, I know this is a dead horse, but just needed to vent....:)

In most years, another three bucks in gas and the right permission would put you on some really good diver hunting at the right time. That's a fact jack.

In the mid 80's it was normal to hear the deer crashing through the ice at our camp in the NLP. The iced over swamp also gave us an occasional shot at a bobcat. It's been about a decade since I can remember ice at the opener for deer season. I also remember us getting froze out of the swamp in '86 in the third week of October. I like the seasons...

He is not a diver hunter. He has made that very clear. Diver hunting is not his thing and he wants a dec season where no driving outside 3 counties is required to shoot mallard drakes like they do in Arkansas. The zone 3 sag bay is ruining his hunting in mich, and though he can afford to drive out of state and scout 3 local counties any more is just too costly. this is how I have been reading it. So it's everyone who prefers early season in zone 3 on the bay and his choices to live, hunt, and limit himself to one region of a mediocre mallard state that he is upset. My back yard sucks for deer in shotgun zone. Right across the street is rifle zone. I bitch every season because our deer don't come in close to shoot at with shotguns. I think they should move the line and cater me me me . Sounds like we both need to play the hand were dealt or suffer the costs to hunt elsewhere. Stupid Michigan
