Dr. Tom Flanagan passed away peacefully Saturday, July 4th at his home in Norwich, N.Y. Born September 11th, 1919 he was involved with bird dogs for nearly a century. He began raising his Uncle George Manley's English Setters imported from England in his back yard. He later established his own breeding operation, Grouse Ridge Kennels. In the ensuing 65 years the Grouse Ridge dogs have been successful competitors in all types of Field Trials.

Dr. Flanagan was a host of numerous trials over the years on his own property and a noted judge of shooting dogs, cover dogs and all-age trials. His leadership roles in many clubs also were extensive, having served as past president of the AFTCA, the New York Bird Dog Association, the revered Orange County F.T.C., the Grand National Grouse Championship and as a charter member and director of the Shooting Dog Futurities at Baldwinsville, NY and Hoffman, N.C. to name just a few. He thoroughly enjoyed the comraderie and competition at trials. He had an insatiable curiousity which made him a life long student of all subjects. His abiding sense of humor and sharp mind made him a great traveling companion. He will be missed by his large family and legion of loyal friends.

A more complete catalog of his career will be forthcoming in a future issue of the American Field.

Calling hours will be held at Wilson's Funeral Home, South Broad Street, Norwich , NY Thursday, July 9th from 1-4 and 5-7 pm. The funeral is scheduled for Friday morning July 10th at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Norwich, NY. A celebration of his life will be held at the Canasawacta Country Club immediately following the funeral service.
