I had three really nice bids I had my eye on, I hope they survive the winter, haven't seen any sigh of them for weeks now.

 

Pretty ambitious goal but I'd expect nothing less. Certainly every upstart team comes to the game expecting to win only to be happy with a top 10 finish when the points are tallied.
Perhaps a better goal would be not to finish last.

 

If you aim low you hit low.lol Winning isn't everything but wanting to is.

 

Good Luck Guys! I wish I could participate, but this Super Sling contraption that my arm needs to be will get in the way. Hopefully I am able to get out of it here at the end of next month so I can be active. I did ask the doc if I could shoot a gun (You have to ask the question!!) and he strongly suggested not too!! So I am going to follow his advice and apply for a medical hardship for 2019!! Sorry I can't be there with you guys, but you will do a fine job!

Where is everyone from (general) and where are you chasing birds?

I'm from Hartland (Livingston County). Will be hunting strictly private land. Picked the first 2 week hunt. Plan to be a little more selective. Try to maximize our points!

 

I'm in the northeast lower, retired and will spent every ounce of energy I have to find a trophy bird. I'll start calling in March until I find the one I want.

 

I got a feeling it's gonna be a good year for the graybeards

I hunt both private and public lands, just depends on where the biggest bird is. I always hunt the first season, regardless of weather . May brings on too much hunting property duties.

 

Im hunting Lapeer again this year. Gonna check out where i tagged out last year in about a week ansd start looking for that double beard that i couldnt kill last year

 

I have never harvested a multi bearded or even seen one in all my years hunting, I have seen bearded hens but would never harvest one.

I didn't kill him. I havent killed any dphble beard Toms for that matter but I am definitely seeing them. Last year I saw 2.

 

I wonder if it's a inherited trait. The bearded hens that I have seen over the years have all been in the same area. My brother shot a double bearded tom a few years ago but didn't know it until after the harvest. It's possible I have seen them and not realized it. One thing for sure the points would add up big time.

 

Lol definitely those inches count! Yeah I think it's inherited. I seen a phase grey hen in california as well. And I used to raise breeder chickens and they are similar with their colors and traits.

 

There are a lot of grey phase birds in southern jackson county - used to see quite a few in the Brooklyn area when living there.......cool to see.

 

Years ago ,any turkey in the wild that had any white at all could be harvested without a tag, considered domestic.

 

Over 4000 permits left over for my area first season. My wife and me have been driving around the farm country trying to find turkeys with zero results. However a nice tom is living in downtown Alpena, lot of folks feeding him and have named him. Several photos of him on my wife's FB page.

I drew for the first hunt 4/22-4/28. How did everyone else do?

 

I don't put in for the draw anymore, haven't for years now, always plenty of left over permits. But I will be hunting first season 4/22 to 5/5. Planting 650 trees starting May 6 th.

I hunt area A, which is very large, and through the years have gotten to know a lot of it hunting turkeys and looking for sheds. I will find a mature bird, had my eye on three but haven't seen them in weeks now Hope they make it through this bitter winter.
