I hunt state land near Meredith every year. The soil is sandy.

Any soil can be improved with planning. I would recommend reading a lot of the curated posts in the habitat section of this forum. Soil tests and working with the county extension service may help also.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. I'm no expert, but I have learned a lot over the years.

Well, the food plot is about as good as I can make it.

Hopefully after all the acorns & corn in the area are gone, this will be their dinner table!

I bought 3 tactacams this year, so far no complaints but I've only checked them one time. I'll be hunting evenings this weekend so depending on where I set I'll check a cam if it's near by. Most of our cams are now set so you can check them on the way to certain stands as to not disrupt areas.

On one farm the neighbors are just about finished taking out their beans so it'll disrupt their patterns but I'm not really too concerned about it. Bucks don't really start to show up until mid/late October. It'll just be sight seeing to start.

On the other there's mostly corn on and surrounding the property.

Couple of nice bucks there!

I just ran out back and threw some fertilizer on the plot before the rain...Really didn't need to, I couldn't believe how tall it is! Probably my best plot with the amount of food that is provided. Getting very few pictures from the plot every day with all the acorns falling.

Not sure if I will hunt Thursday or not, the forcast doesn't look the greatest.

I bought a Spypoint camera that I put on my bigger food plot.

Very disappointed with the quality of the pictures, so I went and bought a Tactacam....No opinion on this camera yet. I put the camera in kind of a funky spot, so I haven't got any deer shots yet.

Haven’t seen the 10 pt, 9 pt, or drop time buck on our farm in almost a month. Still seeing plenty of 8 pointers though. We bought 4 cuddelink cameras this fall that sends the pics right to our phones. So far I like them but the picture quality isn’t the best. Love having pics sent through the day though and not having to go pull cards. These are a couple of the pics from the last 3 days. Get about 30 pics a day probably.

I have a white oak that is dropping acorns heavy for the first time in years.
The other night when I was hanging a stand near it, the starlings were landing in it...that was enough weight to make them fall even harder.

The deer that were in the food plot every day aren't showing up anymore...pretty sure I know where they are.

I agree. We need to bring this team thread to life. I’m usually pretty active on MS just been busy this summer. I just finished golf and 3-D leagues this week. I will be in the same stand I shot my opening morning buck in last season. It’s a good early season stand that is between the corn and beans and bedding. It has a natural community scrape within bow range of the white oak I’m in and my cams are showing lots of activity in that spot every morning. I have several properties I hunt so I bowhunt almost every day of the season without fear of burning stands out. Hung a camera on another farm I hunt yesterday since they just planted winter wheat in one of the fields. Found a good trail leading towards the field and will hang a stand once I get the intel I need. I’ll be out tomorrow morning hanging another stand on an old property I used to hunt. Found some good sheds on that property this spring and decided to give that property another try.

I will definitely be hunting next weekend....it is raining acorns in my woods!

I set up 2 stands over the last 2 days near oak trees. I will not be back out there until it is time to hunt. I haven't seen acorns like this in many years here.

Checked the cards for the last time yesterday also. A lot of does and fawns and only a couple of little bucks. Both food plots are still getting action.

Can't wait!
The acorns were pelting me on the golf course yesterday. They are big and thick this year.(Red Oak’s)
