I'm guessing that sandbar is still outside of the launch at the river?
I know it was there early in the river before stuff froze up, with the water being low it probably hasn't gotten any better
Oh yeah, that bar is definitely an issue. It’s about 2 feet in depth but if that wind swings to the east or south while you’re out fishing it can be a challenge to get in on the rollers. Kind of like a miniature version of wicked tuna outer banks. I touched my skeg on it just last week on the way in. Sometimes debris from the river gets stuck on it as well so you’ve got to watch out for that. Most times I’ll launch from the East Tawas launch if the wind allows.

Well the water is a patchwork of green and brown everywhere we went. Fish were scattered. Ed and I ended up 2 for 3 with a laker and coho. Coho and the fish that came off were on orange hit sticks under 20 fow. Laker was on a deep diver purple perch out in 25ish fow back 45. Speed was 2-2.2, temp was 37-39 degrees. Laker had a smorgasbord in its belly including perch sticklebacks and gobies. Coho had what we think were just sticklebacks.

Who else has a few of these old lures around? Also does anyone know what brand these are?

Pretty sure they are flatfish. My grandpa was a good friend of the guy that developed them. We’ve got some prototypes that he gave to my grandpa over at my mom's house. I’ll see if I can find some next time we are over there. We used to get everything from pike to kings on them. We even took them down to the keys when I was a kid. Barracuda’s couldn’t leave them alone!😁

Yes. Those are flatfish. Pretty cool if you could find those old ones, Andy. I'm somewhat of a Flatfish afficionado. I have lots of them Including some of the early Helin models.

They still catch fish. I have put away most of the old ones and now used newer models, but over the years I have gave out a lot of toothaches with Flatfish. Kind of a learning curve to fish them, but worth figuring out. Here picture of a fairly recently caught sag bay king that most people wouldn't believe came out of Huron. He chomped a T-4. Bad pic of a very nice fish...

The uglies alway love them too...

Hit Tawas again this midday after the rain blew through. Ed and I were not very efficient today going 3 for7. 2 lakers an Atlantic. Got 1 laker on a purple perch flicker shad and the other on an orange and chartreuse flicker. Atlantic hit the orange hit stick. Got all the fish in under 20 fow. Temp has creeped up to 39-40.

Ed and I hit Oscoda today before he’s headed back down state. Hit 2 Atlantics in the first 45 minutes and thought we were on to something. That was it just 2 for 2. There was great looking water both north and south of the pier with good pockets of bait mixed in but it just went dead. Nice day but the wind had a bite to it. Both Atlantics came on orange hit sticks 55 back. The smaller of the two was a spawned out female with residual eggs and little perch in its stomach. The bigger one was empty.

Big debris still coming down the river do watch out for that.
