Does anyone know where there's some good cat fishing from shore around the area? I'm thinking about trying to get a couple catfish after the salmon are done.
Au Gres river is usually a good spot. My uncle used to go out every morning there at the crack of light and do quite well. When the boats starting heading out it slowed down for him but he still caught them.

Enjoyed reading your posts through the season Andy. It brings back some good memories. I used to keep my boat at Colliers for many years then out to Jerry's when Colliers was sold. Caught a lot of silver fish in those thirty years. I really miss it, I moved my boat Silver Dollar down to Au Gres for walleye when the salmon and alewife disappeared. Nice to see a few around now.

Ah, yeah. We had our boat at Jerry’s from the mid 70’s through the 80’s. I was one of those dock rats you probably saw fishing for gills and bass in the marina. That’s kind of where I learned how to fish by myself. Loved fishing for perch all summer in and around the bay then switching over to salmon late July or early August. Great times for sure.

I rolled out to 80-120 last night for a couple hours.. I couldn’t figure out what they wanted, but it clearly wasn’t what I had! Ran 6 spoons, 1 plug, and 1 flasher fly. 2 riggers 2 divers 2 boards 300 cu and 7 color. Couple follows but no commits. We zig zagged on the edge of the shelf on such a satisfying troll. Wouldn’t have changed a thing. We marked a few fish and found temp break down around 60-70 feet.

Oh well. I accepted a job offer after getting laid off a couple weeks back so I’m riding high, a fish would’ve just been the cherry on top. 😁

Probably back out tonight for some pier patrol action. Not expecting much………. Yet.

Last report for us out of the big boat, summers over. Lol.
Ed, Joe and I ended up with 6 eyes and another fat steelhead again. Fished from 50 to 70 from the point to down off alabaster. Fish and bait were scattered throughout but I think was a little more concentrated up off the point. We didn’t really have much of a bite until 11 or so and they seemed to quit by 12:30. Chicken wing and Craig’s flounder were best today with the biggest 3 eyes and the steelhead coming on the Craig’s. Lost another silver on a 4 color and got one of the smaller eyes on a 5 color other than that everything was deep. Long cores, divers and rigger took the rest of the fish. We also boated three farm animals and a cat.
Man what another great year, a little sad to see this summer go. More than usual I think. Heavy on the eyes and a little light on the silver but just enough to keep it exciting. Excited for hunting seasons to start but I’ll still be dabbling on the big water on the right days with the smaller boat. Good luck out there and still looking forward to more reports.
Sorry, pic heavy but I figured it’s the last post of summer. View attachment 1036654 View attachment 1036655 View attachment 1036657 View attachment 1036660 View attachment 1036662
It was great year indeed! Enjoyed every day out there!

So let me get this straight Josh -
You lost your job (that totally sucks, I have been there).
you landed another job (congrats man, I am happy for you)
Despite the turnover and new job, you can remain living in Tawas? (Totally envious!)
What the heck am I doing wrong??

Due to some wild circumstances I never even fished Tawas this year. Heck really didn’t get enough fishing done this year anywhere with one 4 day stint jigging the D and 4 or 5 days in Manistee. Crazy how things change as Tawas was our most frequented port for a number of years. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Andy and many others. Ill get back up there one of these years.
Hope to see you back up here again soon Jake and I hope I am up there at the same time!

Appreciate it man. Honestly just feel lucky things worked out. I was super worried when it happened I’d have to move but i was pleasantly surprised when I started hunting. Covid pretty much pushed the whole industry remote, not just the company I was at. 🧑🏼‍💻 The fishing must not be interrupted! 😈🎣

Well that’s awesome! Congratulations and keep the posts coming.:)

No. Wind ripped off probably 30’ of steel you walk on several years back and it’s pretty unfished anymore. There’s quite the growth and bird **** on there though.

Man I miss that pier, but I wouldn’t tie boats off in the channel anymore. The class of people and boat skills nowadays are not what they used to be and not something I’d risk my boat with. I’m sure Andy, JGG and any regulars would agree
I have a friend who was a tree cutter and climber at the time and would regularly be 100 feet up in an oak tree. Figured he would not have any problem so I took him out to the north pier. We get out there and climb up and he looks at me and says YOU'RE F'N CRAZY :)

That is the funniest thing I have read today! Thanks for the laugh! We used to walk that North wall every time we were up there. I too, have had plenty of friends and family members say the same thing! Fishing off of the north wall was the best. The walk back with a couple kings was even worse!

Anybody been going out? Windfinder looks kinda doable for sat. I'm kind of torn. Rivers been callin. Boat says the rivers lyin, dont trust her.
I’ve been taking stabs at it still near the pier heads. Not much has changed in the last 2 weeks or so.. water temps are still in the mid-high 60’s and a fish here or there is kinda the norm. No pattern or consistency. Tons of people casting, but not a whole lot of catching going on. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Was thinking of heading that way this weekend,
I know some of you heavy hitters have pulled your boats out. I'm guessing your freezers are full of fish or is it because it's just not worth going out this time of year?
Got out a couple times last week in 40-60/65 fow. Still lots of bait and fish off the point. Water is obviously still super warm. Ended up with 4 eyes and 7 eyes. No silver. No real pattern other than the fish are all down near the bottom.

Lots of bait and fish around still. Plenty of cold water all the way from tawas to singing bridge. Marked 42 degrees down 40 ft. Still 65 on surface though.

Did a leisurely troll from Whitestone to tawas yesterday to enjoy the nice weather. 10 for 13 on the eyes, and lost a steelhead. All the eyes were in the top 25 fow on flickershads and spoons. What a great year!
