Howdy all,

This is a thread to see if there is any interest in putting together a swap meet...Everyone has stuff they want to get rid of and stuff they want to purchase..Nothing like being able to put your hands on it before you buy it...or barter your way face to face into a better deal..We can pick a central location in the state and use that counties fairgrounds or a community building...Everyone throw a couple of bucks into the kitty to send to Steve and the site for advertising. I think it would be advantageous to all...not to mention a good time...If there is interest we need to get busy and do it as fishing season is just around the corner....

Sounds like a good time to me, just a thought, I don't know how much a fair ground would charge, maybe a member with a piece of property - a couple of bucks from each seller to cover any cleanup.

I would be very into this. I always have stuff to get rid of. I have some buddies who would be there as well. Let me know when and where. Great Idea!

Most excellent idea!! It would allow us to get rid of stuff, add more stuff, and meet many members of this great site! Now for the fun part: organizing it :) :)

I had another thought, (Suprised me too) What about a large parking lot, maybe a church or school. Or maybe a state or public park. I don't have one to offer, just an idea.

Sounds good to me!
Location suggestions: Maybe someplace around the center of the state? That way its not to far for anyone member? Or set up a pole of those wanting to do a swap meet and vote by location. (*AE: SE, SW, NE, NW) The winning area gets to host the swap meet!

Well St Louis is the geographical center of lower Michigan...Do we have any interested members in that area or an area close to there.....Or do we it hold further north so the Yuppers (no malice intended) can attend....although I don't recall seeing a post from the UP although I bet there has been....

Add your input.....

Mt Pleasant would be good. Its in the center, we could all go to Soaring Eagle Casino afterward, spend the night, and since its on the way North so we could all head to a lake the next day and play with our new gear we get from each other!

I smell a whole weekend here!

Lansing would be good to, just because thats close for me! I would be willing to help out around here.

Sounds like a great idea to me:) It might be nice if someone knew of a place mid-state with some outdoor recreation nearby. Turn it into a statewide swap meet/outting complete with camping and cook-outs. If I don't have to rent a motel room, then I can buy more junk:D
How's that saying go? One man's junk can be another man's junk? And man, I have a lot of junk:D Jody

Here is Auburn, MI just outside of Midland we have a large park. Motels close by, not sure about camping but could find out. Every year a car club has a huge car show there on the property. I think IMHO we need someone to take charge and start going for it. These plans are good but it has to be put together now. Great idea. It would be a drawing card to any community.

If you are interested in a site about 10 miles from Clare, just off of M115 I have a suggestion. There is a 3 1/2 square mile Boy Scout camp there called Lost Lake Scout Reservation. There would be lots of tent camping available, 25 sites w/electric and water. There would be some fees involved in using this site. Like camping sites are $17 per site. If just tent camping the fees would be less than that. Day visitors usually pay $1.50 per person per day. It would have to be scheduled around events all ready booked on the property. It would even be possible to buy meals there if there was enough interest.

If there is any interest in pursuing this area I can make the arrangements for the camp and check for available dates. The proceeds from the fees would go to promote Scout camping which is not all bad. There is also a much small camp that could be available in Lake Orion, about 5 miles from the Palace of Auburn Hills.

I lived a mile from there for 40 yrs. I do know that anyone renting spaces there it is very expensive. BUT one of those buildings would be the ticket for an indoor meet. They are huge. Not sure if they have tables or if you have to bring your own. Good spot and camping right there. Good idea. Ya never know maybe the the Reservation would rent out a room cheap also being it has to do with fishing.

well I hate to say it or do I....but I work in Mt Pleasant...I can see about the building not sure who to contact...Prolly the fair board President...I can also ask about the camping....This is far from being a chore that I have time to pull off by myself...so any able and willing hands will be greatly appreciated....I don't believe that they furnish tables to the fleamarketers as I have been to that on several occasions...I know they have a big park on the river but it's under water at present and no camping...However if people are intent upon camping then we will have to wait til warmer weather and I need stuff now!!!! my old stuff is boring LOL....actually I need a couple of reels and what not before the big water season starts...

Let me know about added hands and possible a date that you all want to do it...
