I hunt my own private property but was thinking of giving it a break next year in turn look for state land, does the dnr have maps of public land ?

Yes. Click on "Hunting" on the DNR website. From there click on "Where can I hunt" and then click on "public land hunting maps".

Couple different areas you can finds them. One is the public land maps link off of where you click "where can I hunt?" On the left side of the screen.

The other is MI-Hunt which is a bit more detailed depending on where the public land is located. Seems like if you're North of Mount Pleasant then it shows habitat stuff, but if not it for the most part will just show property lines.

You are in the right county also . Montcalm county has some awesome state land. Just need to scout a little off the beaten path
