Anyone own this rod? If so, what are your opinions on it and what techniques do you use this rod for? Also, would this rod be able to handle chinook salmons ranging from 15-25 lbs?
That is a great rod for float fishing and bead fishing steelhead. I personally think it's a touch light for the size salmon we have now. It doesn't have the power to steer a big fish but some times nothing does. Yes it will handle a salmon but definitely not my choice.
I have the Wild River version of that rod. Does really well float fishing or throwing beads. Handles thunder sticks surprisingly well. Overall it’s been a great rod and would buy it again. I fished my buddies Avid 9’ fast action medium. Had about the same power. The extra foot and a half gives you extra leverage when needed. It also protects lighter tippet when you need to.
Now if your looking to pull kings outta skinny water throwing gear or floats I wouldn’t recommend it. I would drop down to something like 8’6” heavy action rod.
I have it. Dont use it much for salmon. It's a great steel rod but like said above not enough backbone for kings. Not saying u couldn't use it for sams
