Spotting scopes....which one, how much?

1300 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Guest
Not sure if this is the place to ask but...........I have been looking at some spotting scopes and have seen many that are 15-60 power. Since my scope is 10-45, I see that the spotting scope isnt that more powerful tahn my scope. Problem is, what should I look for in order to see over 400+ yards? What magnification do I look for and how much should I plan to spend? Should I get a more powerful scope instead?

hunter333 i have a bausch and lomb that is 15 to 60 power with a 60 mm objective lens. i think i paid some where around $250 for it . It does a nice job and is easy to carry around. I use mine all the time i carry it around in my truck year round. I can see antlers over 1/4 mile away . i would buy another one if this one broke or somthing else happened to it. There are a lot of nice ones out there and i think this one is ok for a cheap scope :)

I got some cash as well as gift certificates so I bought a Yukon spotting scope and a bench rest from Cabelas. I cant wait for them to get here!!

I had a chance to look through a sightron spotting scope they are VERY nice . I have a 6-24 sightron rifle scope and I like it as much as my leupold's. You get what you pay for I bought one of those russian spotting scope what a piece off junk. Remember the more power the more light gathereing ability you will need, and if the optics are poor the object you focus on will be fuzzy. The sightrons are in the 300-350 range the leupolds are about the same , slightly higher. The cabelas big sky is a nice piece as well. I would sell the russian one cheap, it would be fine for looking at deer at a close distance 300-400 yrds but smaller tagets get fuzzy. Like I said you get what you pay for. Good luck

Hunter333 you might consider gettin ga window mount for your scope. It REALLY comes in handy :) Saves you from jumping out of your car or truck all the time .
