Mostly just design, however some split limb companies say that since thre is less weight with split limbs, more energy is produced because the bow is not using it's own energy to move heavy limbs. Mathews has addressed that with thier new Drenalin bow with slim limbs. I still like solid limbs for no reason other than I dont like brush and twigs gettig caught between the split limbs.
I'm not sure if it was the bow , the string or what , but my split limb was a nightmare to tune for the first year and again after replacing the string and
cables 3 years later. It probably just need to stretch everything out, but what a pain in the rump. I have recently switched back to a solid limb.
