Anybody ever fish this lake during softwater conditions? Have done pretty decent ice fishing there this year...Just curious. Have a cottage on Sand Lake minutes away and I know how busy they get with pleasure boats and what not....Any tips appreciated!!!

Steve - sounds great. We are not sure what we are going to exactly fish for. We have pulled some nice sized bass outta there during the ice season. We got into the perch and crappie pretty good, but never got into those bull redears everyone talks about. We also caught probably 15+ pike in about 4 trips, so we are also thinking about taking some chubs under some slip floats. Let me know, cause we got cabin fever right now and getting the boat ready this week. I would like to get out there before it heats up and those idits go tear the lake up...

Hey there CM,
I'm an old south shore resident (down by JERRY'S PUB), and still fish that lake a lot. The open water fishing can be excellent. There is a bass tourny there on Wed. nights, and usually two or three every weekend. Good bass fishing, large and smallmouth.
The bluegills are great. Shallow early in the year, deep in July/Aug, and shallow again in late Sept.. They do something wierd on that lake. Their seems to be a "second spawn". I've run into spawning fish in Aug.. Additionally, you will get The BIG 11" green sunfish mostly during the spawn. I could never catch them consistently any other time.
Pike, which I'm not a huge fan of seems easy. White skirt/copper blade+ throw it anywhere=PIKE
Perch are a here today gone tomorrow proposal. Sand used to be the better bet for perch, but I haven't fished it since I got rid of my house on THE BLVD. over by the old fire dept.
As far as Wamplers getting too busy, you can always escape the GO FASTERS by going into Round Lk, take the canal to the right out of the launch, or if you have a small boat, you can fish Iron Lk, the canal next to Jerry's pub. Good luck. Leave a few for me, and we'll see you out there. Capnhook- Thom McCollum

Muleskinner, their is a launch on Egan Hwy. Go just past the church and turn right. Go to the bottom of the hill and start looking. You'll miss it if you are going fast. You can't get much of a boat in there, but you can't get anything but a canoe or 10ft flatbottom through the canal from Wamplers. Some dandy perch and gills exist in there. You just gotta work for them. I can't give you any info for pike as I've never caught one on purpose. The breakline by the church shore always seems to be loaded with fish, and a nice sunken island is on the north side.Good Luck- Capnhook

Ozzgood - Let me know how ya do...Only thing I know about that lake is there is a pretty steep dropoff down below the cemetary. I have heard rumors there are some good panfish and some monster pike in there....Curious on how ya do!
