We have a lot of this in and around our swamp (Ionia county). Definitely likes wet feet as lot of the area it's growing in holds year round water or at least 3/4 of the year. Sorry about the crappy cell pics.

It'll grow in standing water. I've never noticed any evidence of it being browsed by deer, but offers cover and structure in areas that likely otherwise would not have much. I believe it is a good food source for wood ducks though.

There are usually a lot of ducks in certain areas, especially this year since the water was much higher than normal. Not to concerned about browse but I would like to transplant this around the farm and also to another piece of property.
