Please give me your thoughts on any of this, thanks!
1) Screening
Current situation is basically open hardwoods between access trail and food plot locations, so I'll need to screen it pretty significantly.
I'm thinking: Trail/Screen/open hardwood strip/screen on edge of plot
With each layer of screening being relatively thin, because of lack of space.
So... trail edge screening and food plot screening, with minimum thickness... and will work in shady-ish conditions.
Preference is perennial, and no invasives.
2) Apple trees -
I've decided on Chestnut Crabapple, Liberty Apple, and Ida Red Apple.
Should have apples dropping from early September through beginning of December, and should all be pollinators for each other.
3) Blind platforms
Eventually going to build permanent shacks, but probably not going to have time to get to it this year... plus blind locations are going to be a bit fluid.
So I'm thinking of building some ~6'x6' platforms for blinds (use popups for now, built permanent eventually) about 6'-8' tall... but since they may be moved, I'm not looking for a permanently anchored platform - and ability to be disassembled and moved is a plus.
Anyone have any plans, design ideas, thoughts?
4) Food plots and planting schedule
I'm going to try and plant about 1.4 acres total. About 0.4 acres in food plot trail and 1 acre spread across 4 small plots.
Plan is to plant all 1.4 acres in clover/chicory/cereal rye, and plant about 0.5 acre (~1/2 of each food plot) in a brassica (depending on soil test results).
Sweet Feast Brassica Blend: 6 lb/acre
Plant end of July
Ladino Clover: 2 lb/acre
Alsike Clover: 4 lb/acre
Chicory: 4 lb/acre
Medium Red Clover: 5 lb/acre
Cereal Rye :150 lb/acre
Plant end of August
