Anyone have any recommendations on something better than the Earthway with the shoulder strap? That one is kinda a piece...

I've tried several. Bite the bullet and get the Earthway with 2 shoulder straps. So much better and comfortable. Holds more plus it fills easier with the large opening. ymmv

This is the best over the shoulder spreader I've found so far:
Amazon.com : SOLO Inc. Solo 421 20-Pound Capacity Portable Chest-mount Spreader with Comfortable Cross-shoulder Strap - 421S, White, 20lb : Lawn And Garden Spreaders : Patio, Lawn & Garden

The issue I've had with several Earthway spreaders I've owned in the past is the gears fail. If the above Earthway uses the same gears as they do in their bag spreader, I would not take a chance on that thing at that price. Just get the Solo and be done with it.

I cut a funnel to make filling the Solo easier. Still not easy as the other one. I've never had gears fail on the bag spreaders I've had but anything's possible. Earthway doesn't use the same gears on the 3100 model obviously. The double straps make such a difference, plus carrying capacity. Not cheap but wish I would have gone straight to the big Earthway. jmo
