We finally did it!!:woohoo1: Went out to the Michigan HRC in Howell on the 27th to take a shot at the started title and seeing as the morning land test went perfect it was all but wrapped up. The water test was a little different than expected being it was a 3 acre swamp with a lot of floating algae, tree branches, and other swamp crap, pretty difficult for the dogs to see the birds floating. We took our spot on the line, healed Jake, signalled the bird boy, and then my heart stopped beating!!!:yikes: As the first bird was launched something distracted Jake and he never saw the bird drop. At 60 yards away and not much blind training yet I thought our day was over.:( I cast him out in the direction of the mark but he only swam 20 yards and looked at me like I was messing with him. I called him back and re-casted him hoping he would see the mark but that wasn't the case. He went about 20 yards turned and looked at me so I thought I mine as well give him hand signals cause we had nothing to lose. The problem with that is he's only about 80% on the BACK command. We'll the little sheet finally listened to me and took 2 BACKS and one right OVER and found the mark!!!!!!!:coolgleam Just like we planned it!:eek:ne_eye: When he was retrieving it one of the Judges told me "how lucky I was" so I told her I was buying beer after the tests!!!!! The second retrieve was uneventful and my hunting buddy received the Started Hunting Retriever title. I never want to go through that feeling ever again!!! Here's a couple of pics of the proud pup. Also my son Joe ran Jake in a junior handling event during the mid-day break and received his first ribbon. all in all a very happy day!!

It was nice to meet you Sunday. The whole gallery was cheering for Jake when he spotted the first mark and kicked it into high gear. That first mark was a tough one and several dogs had trouble with it.

Congrats to you and Jake on the title. You did manage to avoid the ice water bucket or the toss into the pond that normally goes with a title. Looks like we might have to wait until you get the HR title to do the honors.

Congrats again.

Sumbeach! I guess that five minutes of training I did with him before he left me at the park and ran home must have made the difference:lol: !
