Oh sorry, I might have read them days back but maybe forgot. Getting older old timers setting in.

I thought most of the discussions were on the Ruger American Ranch (Sub 500.00 gun) and not the Wolverine vs the Gunsite Scout model.

If my decision was just between the American and the Wolverine that would be a no brainer the Wolverine hands down. But between the Wolverine and the better Ruger Scout its hard to say the Wolverine is the flat out winner.
Why so much back and forth?!?!? Just buy both and be done with it! Geez..............

I think that part of the lack of range reports on the Savage is that they were late getting a 450 to market.By the time they got one out there Ruger already saturated the market.

Send me the money Mr. Big Bucks :)

Both of the guns I am looking at have not been reviewed on the internet. Before I pay for something I like to research it hoping to hear input from people that already own one.

I did order one yesterday, The Ruger Gunsite Scout in Stainless for $899.00.

I should have it next week. I have a buddy getting the Savage Wolverine. I plan to test them both for accuracy, velocity, felt recoil etc.

I'm deciding on which scope to get for it. I'm thinking of not using that front rail and just get a 3-9x leupold VX freedom mounting over the action.

I'm sure both of them are quality firearms.Neither manufacturer is known for putting out junk.I don't think the deer will notice the difference .Congrats on the rifle.

I checked out both the Ruger and 2 different Savage's, they both seem nice, but I can't get over how nice the Savage was.
Hi just joined site, have been looking for info on 450 BMSTR.They just legalized it to be used in Delaware.You folks in Michigan seem to have the most info about it.
Like everyone I am trying to find the gun that works for me, I desired to go with the Wolverine.
Shot it over the weekend very happy with its performance zeroed at 50 yard .5 low 100 yards.
I put a Leupold 3x9 CDS system I think that what they call it, anyway it was to be calibrated for the 450 bmstr round. It think it’s made for the AR platform,Leupold is making me anew turrent for it to work for my wolverine.
The elevation adjustment did not add up for that gun it would not shoot correctly when set on 200yrds , shot around 3” high hopefully the new turrent will take care of that.
The savage just felt better in my hands.a lot of guys are buying the rugers for the price diferance..

The CDS won't be accurate unless you properly zero your gun which you have not done properly.

You said you zeroed low at 50 yards. It should be zereod high at 50 yards by .33"

Take a look at this chart for a 100 yard 450 zero, notice the red arc passes above zero at 50 yards.

Nice gun, did it group well for you at 50? I bought the same leupold scope as you.

You are correct, but 100 yards is only .5 low of zero from 50 yards.
At 200 over 3 “ high don’t ad up with the scope set at 2.
If I zero it at a 100yrds it will shoot even higher at 200 yards.
The CDS cap I have says it’s for the 450 250grn BSMSTR AR,
i am guessing the AR RIFLES will shoot the ammo diferently than from the savage wolverine 18” barrel.

Sorry meant to say gun grouped very good at 50 they pretty much inside of one other. At 100 I was making clover leaves.

Yea I'm wondering if they screwed up the cap or maybe that 18" barrel shoots the rounds a little faster. I have no chrono data on the savage yet.

I've not been to the range with mine CDS yet, I'm hoping it will be close. You could zero it at 200 so that 200" cap is right on. Then it might be off when set at 100" but not as much.

Do you have a chrono? curious on the fps from the savage.

Very nice, good to hear that. Yea that savage is a nice one. Glad its working out for you.
No Crono, is your cap marked for AR or the box. If you go on Hornady web site they have a ballistics calculator you can use.just plug in the info gun scope scope height bullet type zero distance long range use and some other info. It will give a lot of info relative to what u are shooting..
Also you are entitled to one free CDS CAP go to Leupold site and you will see how to do it..

Shot gun season starts in Nov here hope to have new cap before then,that’s when we can use the 450. I heard Leupold is backed up with these CDS caps for the 450. If I set it on 1.75 instead of 2 it brings it back on zero . I can live with it until the new cap comes. Most of my shooting will be 50 to 100. When you try your I will be curious how it worked for your gun.

Leupold is making the CDS for 450 bushmaster shooting at 2200 fps which is what my gun does. My box or scope is not marked AR though. Its maked 450 bushmaster 176011. Both the box and scope just say 450 bushmaster.

For the AR to shoot high it would need to be doing faster than 2200 fps. That 18.5" is longer than the Ruger 16" maybe the savage you are shooting is at 2300 fps and your cap was calibrated at sea level for 2200fps.

I just checked my scope. From 0 position (100 yard zero) its 7 clicks to the 150 yard turret cap marker (1/4" per click at 100) and 17 clicks to go from zero to 200 yard marking.
That matches up perfectly with the ballistics of 2200 fps 800 feet alt and 30 degrees. The chart I posted earlier.

Count your clicks from zero to 200 yards, I'm curious how many you count. Should be 17 or 18. They won't be able to make an accurate cap without the feet per second from your gun.

It is model 173465
1=0.1MIL
11 clicks = 200yrds
18 = 250
28 = 300
40 = 350

Must be a diferant model.

The Savage 110 Wolverine has the 18" barrel with a 1:24 twist. The Ruger American & Scout have a 16" barrel with 1:16 twist.

The default CDS cap is for a 16" AR barrel? Randy's in Bad Axe had some custom Leupold CDS caps made for the Rugers, which put the 16" barrels spot on as I understand it. I don't know if they are using the same one for the 22" Rugers or not?

I am using the same exact Vortex Viper 2.5-10x44 Scope on both my CVA Scout 1:24 twist 23-3/16" barrel (without brake), and my Ruger American 1:16 twist 16.12" barrel (without brake). That includes the 1.7" chamber. Both scopes are the same distance from the centerline of the bores.

With factory Hornady Black 250 gr FTX I'm averaging 2288 FPS in the CVA Scout with the brake, and 2311 FPS without the brake @ 10'. In the Ruger American I'm averaging 2155 FPS without the brake, no data with brake as it imploded my chronograph from the muzzle blast at 10'.

So 7" more barrel with a slower twist is adding 157 FPS Average, without brake. Although not exactly linear, it will be close enough for discussion.

157 FPS Ă· 7" = 22.428 FPS per Inch.
16" barrel = 2155.
2" Ă— 22.428 FPS per Inch = 44.85 FPS Gain in18" barrel.

So you should be shooting at roughly, 2200 FPS minimum with your 18" barrel. I'm pretty sure the CDS caps that Randys had made up were for 2200 FPS , but I could be wrong. There are several on this site that have them, so hopefully they will weigh in on this.

What FPS is marked on your CDS cap for the AR?

Maybe the AR being gas operated makes a diferance in the turret settings ?
