Hey guys. I don't tend to post much on here, more or less I just like to read what you guys write. However I would like to report on something that may help a guy or two that is deciding what new slug gun to buy. Since 2002 I had been using a Mossberg 695 bolt action slug gun. It was a 12 gauge, ugly, felt cheap and kicked like a well rested young Clydesdale horse. I hated that gun in all honesty, but it did one thing well and fortunately it was what counted. I was accurate. I bought a lead sled to shoot it at the range and put a sims pad on it but it was still miserable. Now when I say accurate I mean 4" groups at 100 yards under the best conditions possible. I always was happy with that, and while I always read and heard about guys that can shoot as good or better than that with a Mossy 500 or 870 I have never been fortunate enough to witness such a gun at the range, ever. Not saying it can't be done, because I have no doubt it can and has, but its not the norm. Anyways on with the story. I purchased a Savage 220f this summer after witnessing a buddy of mine shoot his last fall. It was accurate, had low recoil and felt like a real rifle. After seeing the entry and exit hole on the deer and the blood trail (zero yards) I had made my mind up I was going to buy one. So anyways I bought it in July, put a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9X40 on it with Warne Steel rings and bases. This gun is UNBELIEVABLE!! I tried both the 3" and 2 3/4" Remington Accu tips and the 3" Barnes and they all shoot the same...awesome! First 3 shots after bore sighting it were in the same ragged hole at 50 yards, after a few scope adjustments I was able to put 5 shots at 100 yards with in 1" honestly maybe less. Now that is impressive, but last Sunday I decided to see how it would do on long range shots. I put a target up at 160 yards with a range finder, (the most we could get) and proceeded to shoot a group. A 3 shot group, while about 8 inches low of point of aim, was within 2.5 inches. I don't know if I would take a shot at that distance, but I now know the gun is more than capable. Happy Shooting Guys!
