I did not wish to hijack the thread on the gentleman looking for a low recoil gun for his son. Hopefully, I'm posting a newly titled thread but since I'm a newbie please bear with me if I've made an error.
I stopped by a sporting goods store that had a Savage 220 20ga rifled shotgun. I inquired about the 220F and the salesman looked at me like I was from Mars. Checked the Savage site. Found the 220 - not the 220F. What am I missing? Anyone know the difference?

It is my understanding that when the 220 (F) first came out Savage used the f at the end to distinguish it from an older model shotgun that was also named as a 220. However because it is semi confusing and a little silly to list it as a 220F my guess is they just dropped the F and now call it the 220. No difference in the guns, as least as far as I know. If you do decide to purchase one you will be very happy. They are great guns and IMO can't be beat for the price.

OK. Thanks. That clears up the confusion. I sent an inquiry to Savage but they have not responded. I was concerned additional letters after the 220 might indicate there was more than one barrel option.

As an aside I did speak with a friend this morning that has a FFL and he called his distributor. It was the opinion of the distributor that Savage initially used the F to designate a fiber stock. But this is from the "for what it's worth" department and I have no way of verifying it for accuracy.

In stock. It's ordered. Happy hunting. K

Thanks for the clarification on 220 vs. 220F. Here's one for you, Cabela's lists their 220 as "MODEL: 20GA SLUG-NEXT GEN" (on the order page, not on the description). On the description (prior page) it says Model 220. It was the combo, maybe that was what was meant by "next gen" (combo includes factory mounted scope). Hate to dig up a 4 year old thread but the clarification on 220 vs. 220F is good information.
