I was fishing the AuSable on Monday at one of my favorite spots around 0800. I noticed some (many) “minnows” heading downstream. I thought this a bit odd. As I watched it become a steady stream of literally thousands that streamed by me heading towards the lake. Must have bee about 10 to 15 minutes before the stream ended. Could these be salmon? There were anywhere from 1 ½ ” to 2 ½ ” long. How long does it take after spawning that the fish would become that big?

our hatchery guy said the eggs hatch in 5-6 weeks at 53f, but they are very small. depends on water temps etc.

The size you described would be minnows.

Our creek had huge amounts of minnows as well.
