I'd be willing to bet my Polaris that you'll be walking the river in early February and complaining how thick the ice is. Why? It is almost always late January before good solid ice settles in on the bay and river. There's usually a cutter and freighter coming in to Bay City at the end of January each year. I never plan to fish before the twenty-fifth of January each year. All in all, it's still way too early to abandon hope. I do feel your pain though; this weather is really hard on an icefisherman's spirit. Get your chores all caught up so you can hit it hard when the real ice arrives!
