Just got back from the annual family vaca to S. Manistique Lake in Curtis in da U P eh. Started out with a fly by of a Bald Eagle. What a magnificent site. The first evening we were treated to a unbelievable display of the northern lights. What a view. Breathtaking display. Two nights later, again treated to the aurora borealis. Now for the fishing. Limited out everyday on northern pike, however nothing of keeper size with the largest being only 23 1/2 inches. Trolling bomber long A`s in 8 to 11 fow had them snappin pretty good. The hot color was a bass pattern and also a gold with a tanic colored hue to it was also effective. Casting mepps and beetle spins also was somewhat productive but only on smaller fish, (pike). A few largemouth were caught as well with the biggest being only 14 inches. Took the small kids `gill fishing and we were pretty busy as the bluegills were cooperative. The biggest gill came in at 8 inches. We used waxworms and some small bits of power bait to entice them into biting. No wallys caught by our party but another group caught a few keepers. Water temp was 71 to 74 degrees. The weather was spectacular except for thursday when we had sustained winds of 30 mph with some higher gusts. Didn`t even get in the boat that day, Took a trip into mac city instead. Took a side trip into Munising for the glass bottom boat shipwreck tour and it was very interesting. Fishing, tubeing, jetskiing, joy riding and great campfires made for a fantastic week. Already looking forward to next year
