My brother celebrated Xmas at Midnight last night by hooking into a 10-12 pounder that he saw and almost landed before it threw the black bluegill popper fly as it made a final run downstream. It was certainly a nice change compared to the usual shad... Water levels were slightly higher than the recent weeks.

Nothing like hooking into something unexpected. Can I ask what body of water you were fishing on?

I was just curious when you mentioned it hit on a black popper. I have caught a few fish on poppers but never considered using one on a river at xmas for steelies.
