A buddy just gave me a Bushnell sportview 3x9x40 scope that I would like to mount to my Ruger 10/22. The scope seems large, should I be mounting this scope with special (higher) rings? I am using the mounting bracket that came with the gun. Thanks Doug
I believe it’s 40mm, that why I’m wondering if a need “higher” rings.

The power doesn't really determine the bell size. If it is only a 32mm scope, you are probably ok.

Actually, you want to stay as low as you can and still have clearance for the scope. Don't worry about your front sight, only clearance.

Depending upon your needs, you might even want to consider mounting a pincatinny base which would enable mounting of a variety of accessories up top.

Medium weaver rings should fit perfectly with your 40mm scope. The base that Ruger provides will work with both narrow 22 rings and standard Weaver bases.

Oh, so it is a 40mm.

I'd still look at a picatinny base or even a one piece base/ring combo.
