Just wondering if anyone has been to Rice Lake at all for bluegill fishing. Have heard some great things about getting a ton of slab size gills and was wanting to make a trip up there.

When is the best time to go, where to stay, etc

been there 5 times usually go in early june and try to catch the fish while they are on the beds. we stay at godfreys and it has nice accomadations

I normally go in first of August. It is a Canadian Holiday and my brotherinlaw and I go up for three days. Normally fishing for Large mouth bass and have some luck but not much. We usually go out in the lake once also (fish river mostly) and every time we catch tons of huge sunfish. IT's a catch and release for us. I use a slip bobber and drift with wax worms and ultra light outfit. It is awesome. Never been there ice fishing but here they clean up on the bluegill but need to know where to fish.

Isn't Rice Lake closed for ice fishing???

I have heard that it is closed to ice fishing also.

We normally fish it in early June.
