Repair business booming

The year 2003 was not a particularly profitable one for the hunting and fishing industry.
Job layoffs and an uncertain economy led many consumers to reduce spending on recreational equipment.
So why is Chuck Brod, owner of Sportsman’s Repair Shop in Mosinee, one of the larger rod and reel repair businesses in Wisconsin, smiling?“
If people are laid off, they’re still going to go fishing,” he said. “But they’re not going to buy a new rod and reel. They’ll bring in their old equipment to get it fixed.”
