I bent a shaft on a river boat I used to have. Dealer and 2 mechanics told me to not even try to straighten it.

Their reason was that if its not perfectly straight you will get vibration straight up into the lower unit and it will cause a bigger problem let alone provide a bad ride.

I don't remember exactly but it seems the replacement wasn't to bad. Still stung but better than having to replace a whole lower unit later.

I've done it with excellent results. It doesn't take anything special, just a bearing press, Vee blocks and a magnetic base dial indicator.

If I had time I'd offer to do it for you, but I have had people waiting three weeks for me to fix motors. Starting another big project Monday.
