I am planning a fly fishing trip on the Pere Marquette and Little Manistee this spring. Trying to decide between early May (second week) and mid June. Do you think fishing will be better in May or June? Thanks for the advice.

May is a great time to target big browns, bows, and perhaps some dropbacks. Most if not all the action is below the surface for the larger fish.

It was quite a while ago now that I think about it...it was trout season, mid-May, we were targeting trout and some late steelies @ Tippy and it sucked.

We busted down 37 to the PM, walked in at Green Cottage and there were fish on the redds and deep runs everywhere! Probably 75 steelhead spotted from the parking lot to the walk-in access up the road! A full day of drifting to them with a trout rod. Not one landed, multiple breakoffs and almost got spooled.
