I want to plant buck forage oats as a cover crop for clover and chicory.
I`m 25 mi. w of Iron Mountain and I`d like to know when I should plant to get max. benifit from the BFO and still give the clover and chicory time to establish before the frost comes.

We had great luck last year with using BFO's with clover and planting in mid-late August. Then come March next year, frost-seed more clover and next spring your clover should look pretty darn nice. I would start prepping the soil now (RoundUp, lime, till, more RU, fertilizer). Maybe even plant some buckwheat now and then till it in come late August. Buckwheat supposedly builds up the soil and loosens up heavy ground.
