It’s just what the veterinarian ordered: More employers are offering pet-related benefits to their workers, including insurance coverage, doggie office visits, online advice and even days off when man’s best friend is ailing.

* Wegmans Food Markets Inc., a 66-store supermarket chain in Rochester, N.Y., permits employees to take personal days to care for a sick pet. “We consider it a legitimate reason to take time off from work,” said Jo Natale, manager of consumer services for the family-owned company.
