You've got to be kidding me! I live right by there and I wouldn't venture out on any ice yet but then again, I'm pretty chicken! Seriously, I don't think there is safe ice in this area yet but I'm not much of an ice fisherman. Be careful!

I was told that some of the canals around Selfridge had 2 to 2 1/2" of ice and a full night ahead of us below freezing (albeit barely). Hopefully we won't get too much rain tomorrow. I'm probably gonna try to find some shallow canal in the morning and wear the waders to avoid a bath!!! Will post when I get home:)

Fished in the canal behind the bait shop today. Ice was 2 to 3" thick but getting shaky after the rain. Was told that the last 2 days were dynamite for huge gills. Saw very few today. A school of mostly small perch came in there overnight, there was hardly any perch caught the last 2 days. Caught 50 perch this morning, kept 5 over 7 1/2". If you like 6 inchers and some do, thats the place to go. Used spikes on a small orange and chartreuse teardrop. Water clarity about 8 inches. Gonna let the cold weather get back in here and wait till Thursday to go back up there...

To soon for me, I'm glad to see others are still leary about the ice. I thought I was a wimp. But still some times it is just too temping. In my opinion it is probably better to go on ice that seems unsafe now, rather than later when the ice fishing is coming to an end.

Still can't wait to get out there, so I guess to the guys that are braving it, good luck and save some fish for me.

The canal I fished in Tuesday is no more than 3 feet deep and I had chest waders on. Although the ice was a little shaky, I was prepared if I did fall in. Thanx for the lookout anyway guys!!!:)
