Payne typically is an early freezer so I would think it would be good to go.

I stopped by Sunday morning. 4" for about 50 yards from launch and then barely 3"...probably 2.5". One guy close to the launch and one guy down by the south end. I guess it was "fishable" but I wouldn't have felt too comfy out there.

Fished it quite a bit last yr,snow fall may have been the problem but even in February ice was very inconsistent.
Especially to the right of boat launch..
We turned back many times.
Use a spud!!!

Yup...not typical February ice conditions last winter though. Lots of bad ice and a short season from what I remember.

Yep. I ended up going north 4 times. Best and most adventurous season yet. Other than I beat the hell out of my old body.

I saw a couple shanties off the launch last Saturday, but I didn't personally check the ice. I don't think I've ever caught anything worth keeping through the ice out there.
