Can't wait 3 months an were headed back to Capreol Ontario to try to get a bear again, last year wasn't the greatest but still had a great time. Think the people that went the week before us ruined our hunting due to wounding a couple bears an leaving behind a bunch of human scent, but i think this year will be better.

I would check out Pete and Superior Bear Outfitters next time. You won't be affected by previous hunters b/c he would never put you on a bait that someone else has hunted. Each person gets 2 baits and those are yours for the season.

Rooting around in the brush looking for a wounded bear will mess up the pile, for the most part. Last Fall we did have a bear dropped in the pile. He was quietly removed(no talking) & the next evening a 400+ pounder was dropped next to the same pile. Even with this though activity was way down.

A few years ago a guy wounded a bear. That lead to an up to midnight tracking job through prime habitat. The bear was recovered the next morning. The bait in that pile was eaten by coons & was never touched by a bear again that year. This was in prime habitat.

There are exceptions to most any rule of course. The big ones don't get big by being dumb. At the least you may never see them during shooting hours. The ideal is a hot pile on day 1.
