Mike Avery Radio You Tube 9-21-24, he had a "Top" Elk Guide in his words. All thru interview statements were made, "most of time were just watching cameras",' got a 7x7 comparing pics with another guide'', "use a lot of tech lots of cameras", . At 1:39.50 of video admitting," Got intel, a pic showed up got over there were able to find him". Way to go Mike Avery should have questioned him on ethics or legal aspect of real time intel.

Or the method in the elk woods that I am familiar with using radios and communicating where herds are to get hunters in the right spot to shoot one. I've been going over regularly since 2012 and that is very common. I like the first day of the December hunt and every rig has a radio out trying to find animals.

Did you see the radio program live time? Or recorded?
Was the 7x7 elk on camera realtime on the program , or was it a prior event?

Most importantly , how did the radio program affect your elk hunt on the 23rd?
I heard it Sunday then waited till it was posted on You Tube to hear it again. I think he said , got pic then took him 30 mins to get there.Watch it.

They let other tag holders know that they just saw a cow/bull in a certain field, and they head over.

See I'm lost in all this electronic communication...

Pre cell phone I thought it was illegal to use walkie talkies to relay real time game location... Than the cell phone became common place and essentially there was no way to enforce it...

Now with cell cams providing real time relay I wasn't aware that there was a law pertaining to them...

Personally I think cell cams should be illegal during season but that's just my opinion

Boone and crockett agrees.

What a great use of a legal tool to help in the taking of a great game animal. Maybe we should also have the police take the radios out of their patrol cars and wait for the red light to go off on the call box. After all we need to give the criminals a fair shake too.

What you may or may not be missing is a one man (Hackman) push to have cell cams banded and his obsession about cams on state land. SMH

It’s not like you see a picture and just ran out there and bam. Still takes skill to get to that end point.

I'm not a hunter any more but can't come to the conclusion that this would fall into the category of fair chase which is what I thought the entire sport was supposed to be about. Not a single person could convince a logical person that this is not an unfair advantage. There are places you aren't supposed to drive deer either so I don't see a difference really if you push them to someone or call them to let them know the animal is heading their way or just straight up give its coordinates. People are bitching about front facing sonar in fishing making it too easy so how is this different? It's just greedy imo.

The turning of Michigans Elk herd into a game farm endeavor.
It always has been.

No where near as unfair of an advantage that a 300 Win Mag offers.

Michigan deer hunters that use trail cameras, including cellular, are on average 7% more successful. It is also known that this has no harm to our Deer or bear herd and has actually helped in management of the herds.

So now you think trail cams are illegal on private too or what exactly is you're point on how Vance scouts and gets elk shot on the property he manages?

And by the way all my cams are still out all over public land with my name and phone number and haven't gotten that call yet that they are illegal

Fair chase (what is ethical, sporting) often comes down to a matter of opinion.

What is legal is another thing, they're not always one and the same. People are supposed to stay legal. There is often a choice to make in what is or isn't considered fair chase.

What's legal, and what's considered fair chase, can change over time. Different areas can have separate rules and norms.

Im not that familiar with public land rules but there should at least be a maximum number of trail cams one can deploy...

I learned in another thread that they scare mature deer and will cause them to leave... If multiple guys are running five six cams on a piece of public the deer will have no where to go except to the neighboring private.

No wonder guys cry there aren't as many deer on public ground as their used to be...
