I inherited some old fishing tackle and equipment awhile back and in a steel tackle box that was dedicated to fly fishing is a bottle of something called mucllin (exact spelling) made in England. Is this a type of dressing please?
There is also an old glass container of "Superdry" that smells like paint thinner. It says on the back label that it is "good for all flys"... "makes silk lines work like new"...
Tons of dry and wet flies. A self-retreiving fly reel too. Got an old bamboo 8 foot fly rod, some hexagon shaped steel bait rods, one of them made by a Tractor company... Neat old stuff.
Being a novice at this, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a webpage that would illustrate (in color) the various fly patterns so I can start identifying everything. Perhaps somewhere for info on the tackle?
Thanks if you can help!

david, before anything, do a check on the internet about your bamboo rods, some are worth quite a bit. that would be the first thing i would do, cuz i'd hate to break, ruin, or mistreat something that should be in a showcase.

Don't know a value yet. I'm going to ask Paul at Orvis in Royal Oak about it. See if it's something worth getting restored and used.
The Fly reel is apparently a common collectable of small value. It's a "Oren-O-Matic" from South Bend Co.

The flies are all over the spectrum. Still looking for color charts so I can categorize them and learn to ientify more patterns.

Anyone have a clue what the mucllin is for?

Contact as many local and not local fly shops as you can. You will spend time and money to find out if the stuff you have is worth anything. Consider it as mining for information on the internet except you are doing the research physically.

Post pictures on this site and ask if one of the M-S addicts knows something about the stuff you have.

The stuff may not mean anything now but it may be of value to those in your family that live after you have passed on, especially if the history is included.

Last and least, put the stuff on E-Bay. You can sell anything, everything and nothing there. I have the E-Bay post for nothing to sell on the wall at work.

Sounds like you may have some neat old stuff. Does the rod have one tip or two? The "better" rods always cme with two. Muclin is line dressing and now comes in two types. One in a green coded package for the newer "plastic" lines. The other is red coded and is for use on silk lines. I would think being that old your muclin maybe for silk lines. Does the reel have any line on it? Silk line needs removing from the reel and dried between useage then redressed. It is also subjected to insect attack. I'd sure like to have a find like yours. Hope this helps. Dave

I thought that there was a missing rod somewhere as there are two tip sections but only one of the other 3 sections/pieces. Thanks.
Looks like I forgot to mention the type... It's a Heddon #14. Four piece (five counting extra tip) 8 footer.
The reel has no line on it. Does have a sticky brownish residue though, in the spiral pattern of backing or line, like there was some sticky line on at one time.

Thanks again to all who responded.
