We ventured out of Grand Haven on Saturday. It was pretty slow. We picked up this steelhead and 3 lakers. It was cold!

Replaced the raspberry carbon I lost last year. They added some dots on the back. Can’t wait to see if it helps. Sure can’t hurt.

All, The NWMI Fishing Club is canceling the Interlochness Ice Fishing Tournament this weekend for several reasons.

Ice on Long, Leelanau, Duck, Green, and many more lakes is inconsistent with 6" in some places and open water in others.

The 6" of ice is routinely 4" of soft white ice with 2" of good black ice. With the recent rain sitting on top, the ice will continue to deteriorate. With the new snow coming, the soft areas will be camouflaged for the unsuspecting.

The winds for Saturday (day 1) of the tournament are predicted for 20mph and that wind will greatly reduce registration numbers on top of the sketchy ice dilemma.

There are a lot of reasons not to do the tournament this year, and very few to push it through.

We appreciate all the early registrants and Long Lake Grocery will refund your entry fees.

Gave Frankfort a go yesterday casting for unicorns. Don't have my boat up here yet so tried off the N pier and then moved over to the old ferry docks for awhile. Even tried over in Elberta in the river. Nothing going for me.

No ice in bay or harbor. Public launch accessible.

If your bored the stub piers can be a lot of fun jigging for smallmouth and pike, 3/4oz laser minnow, just straight down over the edge, caught a lot of pike and smallmouth that way, also a couple lakers when it’s cold out
White it my favorite color down there

Use to fish the stub piers a lot growing up. House was just two blocks up the street on Michigan Ave.

We would hammer the lake trout jigging Swedish Pimples in the late fall when the season was still open in those days. Seems like the Elberta side was more consistent on the lake trout.

Thought about trying a few cast off the stub by the CC station. Out in the boat we would hook up with browns more often in the bay over by the ferry docks and just west. That's why I went over there.

I've only fished Frankfort once and it was from the pier in fall of 2019. I was out there hucking big spoons with the rest of the crowd for hours (not knowing what I was doing - it was my first year as an angler - but just copying the crowd) with not a single fish being caught by anybody. So, out of boredom, I threw on a Rapala. It was windy so I could only cast that lightweight lure 15-20 feet out, but on my second cast, I hooked up. Everybody turned their heads to watch as I landed a nice walleye. Then, a collective groan from the others as it wasn't a salmon. I remember thinking, since when is a walleye a downgrade from a salmon? Lmao. I was thrilled and I didn't see another fish caught by anyone.

Last year at the cleaning station a couple of guys stopped in and said the Coast Guard was kicking people off the north stub pier. They were told that it was private government property. I believe they also put a few no trespassing signs up. I was told that by more than one person but I didn't personally experience it.

Was thinking of heading that way on Sunday, but the fishing report doesn't sound very promising.

Just curious, how’s the fishing in Betsie lake is in the month of June? I have some buddies that has a bass boat and wanted to try fishing for pike, bass and whatever else might be in there casting from a boat. I know there’s some great inland lakes, but I’ve never heard how Betsie lake was for Bass/pike early summer. Have they ever had small bass tournaments held there? Just curious..
