I dont think I've caught a single clipped fish this year in frankfort. Plus you can't tell where it came from until the tag is read in the lab.
I had one with stomach contents that had chunks of cheese and bratwurst

All the kings we kept out of FF were natural fish, as were the few we took from east bay. There were a ton of smaller fish this year that were tossed back and I did not check those as close.
Wisconsin fish have a yellow tattoo on the belly.
That’s what I was told. Didn’t make much sense being the fish were staging in the lake about to go up the bestie.
I've heard that BS for years. Those yellow blotches are a natural occurring thing when they start the end game.
Buddy pointed it out said he watched a tv special on it. I’ll have to ask him where he saw it. It looked like a possible tattoo it was only one dot and both in the same spot on both fish.
It's basically a fish freckle, that shows up usually near spawning time. See it on all species of salmon. The WI marker is just a myth that has run rampant for years.

Guess I will have to start checking my fish, I have never noticed the yellow spot on any. Thanks for posting that.
I've have seen alot....it is true
I see them all the time. On pinks also. Sometimes they are tiny and sometimes they are huge lol
I caught one in Ludington MI last week. Didn’t know that was a Wisconsin mark.

My boys and I hauled our boat up from Lansing today for our first Frankfort foray. Still haven’t taken it off the trailer. Tomorrow doesn’t look likely either. Fingers crossed for Sunday and Monday….
I sat by the harbor this afternoon/evening and watched a handful of boats jigging. Judging by the empty two hearteds that I found at my feet, I must have been there a while…. Never saw a net flash.

Yea i stand corrected. The yellow dots are apparently the mark death, not a tattoo.
Actually, this is not an entirely true statement by the WiDNR staffers. The MDNR employed oxy-tetracyclene laced food pellets and physical dips to mark the bones of planted chinook in their fist attempts to document and differentiate wild origin and hatchery origin stock proportions in Lakes Michigan and Huron for chinook salmon about twenty-some years ago.
Anyone get out this morning? How rough was it?
