This is gonna sound really nerdy, but I’m thinking regarding the buoy is that it is reporting wave amplitude, rather than the height from crest to trough? That’s my only guess from what I remember from physics because everytime I’m out it seems like the waves are about exactly double what the buoy says.
When I first started fishing the big lake I thought Noaa measured the wave amplitude and not the total height. Then one day I was watching the bottom on the graph move 8 feet on every wave and wondered why no one else was out there...

NOAA Definition

Significant wave height is the average of the highest one-third (33%) of waves (measured from trough to crest) that occur in a given period. (NOAA)

Well....only a few fish in the bay today...caught one teens male...pretty dark w red belly. But not seeing a push in the river yet. Talked to a few guys that saw them in the bay over the weekend...lockjaw and surfacing they said. Those fish must be in the lower river on their way up.

Ripping windy from wsw breaking over s pier pretty good w whitecaps coming straight into the channel. Emptiest launch I've seen other than no trailers. About 10 when we put in and 3 left when I got mine. Shoulda been here last week huh? So much for timing vacation week right.
