A few weeks ago I put out the feelers to see if there would be interest enough for me to do some consulating for private landowners. I had several contacts and will be meeting with some folks.
Now what I need to do is come up with a name. I would like something that lets you know exactly what I do. I thought of something like ------Wildlife Habitat Consulating (using my last name first) but if you guys have any ideas (clean ones) let me know and if you are intrested in talking about your property just PM me.

Trust me butrunt would not be in the name. Butrunt is only a nickname I have been stuck with for 20 years.

I think you might have something there maybe not butrunt but what about Buckrut Wildlife Habitat Consulating. Or Quality Management Wildlife Habitat Consulating. Just some thoughts.

IMHO Including a personal name in a business name doesn't sound very professional. To me, it just sounds like a fly by night and I have no confidence the company will be around next month. (Realize that my last name is Eggenberger - would you use that in a business name? Ok, maybe if it's a restaurant, but not a land/hunting company.)

I suggest something that makes you sound bigger than you really are: Whitetail Land Management, LLC. or Michigan Property Consultants - something like that. I would avoid Property Management Specialists, just think of the initials!

Good luck,
John E.

What about something like Michigan Wildlife Habitat Consulting. I want to avoid single species such as whitetail because I would work with all species. I would like to assist with management plans or goals of 5-10 years or more. I would write up the plan with the work being done by the landowner to cut down expenses. Most of us realize you can't accomplish everything in one year and sometimes it takes more than 10 years. When managing timber it is good to spread out your cuts over time to give you diversity and different stages of growth. I would assist with timber layouts and marking and draft contracts. I just see a lot more landowners managing their land and think I could be of assistance. With all the housing development and demands on state lands, landowners will or are trying to provide better habitat on their own lands to try to hold and attract the wildlife.

Michigan Wildlife Habitat Consulting sounds like a great name. It's perhaps a bit long so maybe you could drop "Michigan." This way you might be able to market to landowners in Ohio and Indiana too. I was speaking at an outdoor show last year and met a guy named Tony LaPratt. He does something similar to what you're talking about. I bought some of his materials, loaned them out and have forgotten who has them. Sorry I can't provide a phone number. I do recall that he's out of Coldwater. He also holds some 'camps' where hunters pay to spend a few days at his place where he shows exactly what he's done to make his property so attractive to deer. I learned a lot from him.

Good luck,
John E

I have toyed with the idea of Future Generatuions Habitat Consulating. I know the name is long, but I am looking at it as looking to the future not just today. I would like to thank everyone for their input.

"Dead Trespassers Land Management" would surely get some inquiries from landowners interested in making fundamental improvements to their property.

I want to think long term management that benefits our next geneartion and the wildlife.

I'll give it a Thumbs Up.

My hunting land is the legacy I plan to leave behind.
