I was reading here on the site about woods chickens. I looked them up in a shroom guide. My son and I found 1 on an old log on our property in Jackson. Never had one or heard of it before. Man It was AWSOME!:xzicon_sm Just fried it in some butter. Definitely one of my faves now.:)

I am fairly new to some of the other(than morel) mushrooms. This is one of them, but it seems early for them from what I know. I certainly could be wrong. The way our weather has been this season I guess I am not suprised though. I think I am gonna go poke around in my spots soon!
Check out the later in the year 'hen of the woods' shrooms also, they are pretty good and easy to id too.
Thanks for the heads up!

Chicken of the woods are one of my favorites, but I prefer the white pored ones over the sulpher shelf.
A good percentage of people are actually allergic to them, including myself,
but if I limit the amount I eat at a time, I'm fine.
Chicken and rice is my favorite way to eat it though.
