Around 20 years ago I bought a heavy-duty surf casting rod blank that I found on Ebay and soon afterwards had a professional rod builder turn it into a custom chugging rod for me. This was the replacement rod for the solid 21-foot cane poles I used to tote around for the same method of fishing off the old wooden docks in Port Huron. The two custom C-clamp rod holders in the pictures were welded together by me. Yes, it was an expensive and time-consuming project for me, but well worth it in my book.
