Its crazy to think we have fish like that swimming around in the U.S. Yeah we do have sturgeon but they don't have a set of chompers like these guys do :dizzy:

That thing is a monster and I can't believe they didn't think to have it officially weighed and measured how could you not think something that big was at least close to the record.

On some rivers close to my house Gar are considered a nuisance. When they get thick a lot of the walleye and smallies move out. I've caught a few this year by accident and hooked a few 40+ inch ones but was glad they popped off. Wading in a river with some fast current and having a gar jump right in front of you eye level is pretty intense :dizzy: especially since I wasnt targeting them.

This year I quit steelhead earlier in the year than usual and went after smallies and wallies for a while. Once the gar showed up the fishing for those species slowed down a lot.
