CFA Legislative Update
September 8, 2008
Forwarding is OK

Fanciers;.

I'm pleased to report the author of Michigan HB 6395, Representative
Bill
Caul, has announced that the bill will be withdrawn. Staff members
said they
were surprised
with the negative reaction to the proposal.... ..

This bill was introduced on September 3, 2008. This proposal would
require
anyone who sells or OFFERS to sell more than two cats/dogs OR more than
ONE
litter within any 12 month period to obtain a Pet Seller License from
County
Animal Control and comply with facility standards.

Thank you to all those who made their views known quickly and
effectively! !

This is what it takes. Emails and calls to your Rep worked. My Reps staff called me yesterday to assure me he was not in support and he noted they received many other calls and emails.

Bills don't actually get withdrawn, they die in committee if not acted upon before the end of the legislative session. This has the possibility of being re-introduced after January in the new session in a revised version.

it was a very poorly thought out bill. and even if it hadnt been, enforecement would have been a major problem. my rep said he would watch for it to come to the floor, i guess he can forget about it. good.
