I was in the back basin at metro today and watched what was probably the harrison twp fire department doing ice training.they had one guy IN the water and practiced saving. they were on the north side of the island facing northwest off the point going towards the venetian canal. they weren't out that far. DO NOT GO AROUND THE NORTH END!! south of the island is ok. ice has alot of slush on it. 2 1/2 to 5 inches. worst along south wall.
