My buddy lost his dog Monday around noon. We have been looking with no luck since. We figure she is south of the West Branch of the escanaba, East of Cr557, West of the escanaba River, and North of 426. But it's been two days so who know where she is at. If you're in the area consider hunting in that region you might get lucky and stumble upon her. Her name is Patsy.

Drag some human scent trails down the two tracks back to the crate and blanket site.

We lost a dog who decided to run after a snowshoe south of the DeShambo ford on the Escanaba years ago on a long skidder road that ran into the Leisner Creek cedar swamp. After looking for a day and a half I took off my sweaty game coat and made a drag out of it laying a scent trail back to where I park the truck. Left the coat on the ground at dusk with water for the night. Karen told me she saw something in the shadows on the two-track moving. We stopped the truck and both walked toward where she thought she saw something. Sure enough it was Bailey. I had been walking up and down that two track blowing recall on my whistle, but never got a response prior her hitting the scent plume and working her way out on her own.

If not done so, notify State Police and Marquette, Alger, and Delta County Sheriff's, plus any and all animals shelters in those counties. Also plaster all the area Facebook pages you can find. Hopefully she's gone to someone who will be proactive about finding her people.

So sad to hear of her missing.
I am over near Manistique. Would gladly travel over to help, but how? PM if you think of something.

Glad to hear she's still running around. The problem is some dogs, especially hard-headed bird dogs, get very owner specific. My dogs will not listen to my fiance to save their lives. Me on the other hand is a different story. My last GSP wouldn't come to anyone except me. Try as I did to socialize her, she just got super clingy with me. That was always my fear as the breeder I got her from had stories about her mother getting loose and people calling him telling she would just run away when called or approached.

Had it happen some of my cousin's EP's. They wouldn't come when I called them but if he was there, they would pop out of nowhere.

Very good news! After spending days looking for Bailey we decided to train all our dogs to not hunt beyond a specific distance out. Granted, they are flushing dogs not pointers. but we train our lab from pups via walking the two-tracks and hitting the stop/sit whistle prior the recall whistle when they cast down the trail 40-45 yards out. In time they becine ingrainged to get out that far and then swing back or stop to look back to me for a hand signal to cast left or right or work their way back to the gun.
