Just spent a week on Long Lake near Alpena. Managed a dozen or so real nice smallmouth, but never could get a consistent pattern or location going. Anyone have regular success there & what's the ticket?

in Grand they always hit tubes. Find the calm water where it meets the waves off a point and there should usually be a fish or two there. Mid-depth rocks are also pretty good this time of year.

We generally cast cranks to the shady side of the rocks in the Boulder fields..two yearsback a friend hooked, nearly landed ,the biggest smallie I have ever seen...had to be over seven..bigger than anything I seen in st Clair ,Erie or the yooper....our choice in cranks .....rebel craws, jointed shad raps or norman baby N's
