Logging ?

I've been waiting over a year for the second round of logging on my place. Was hoping they would do it last winter.

I just heard that they could get to mine in the next couple of weeks. We're doing 2 small clear cuts and a shelter wood cut.

Would you let them do it in September? Or do I put them off and possibly wait another year.

Yes & no. I think you'll find the stuff is just too thick for a landscape rake to be effective...I tried and gave up. I thought about trying a grapple. In my opinion there are two effective options: forestry mulcher or dozer. My place was logged two years ago. What I've been doing is walking deer trails, or where I want them to walk with a chainsaw. I cut away any slash on the ground so that they don't have to step over anything. I cater to laziness.

We were told the poplar and other softwood will rot away in a spring or two. Hopefully your crew will drive their equipment over it enough going to and from to break it down. Would be especially nice if they're driving your trails. There's some pretty nasty spots in our cuts, but cameras show the deer don't seem to care - they just work their way through it. Realize I'm not answering the question, but I'm think they'll find their own bedding spots amongst the debris - probably can only control how and where the regrowth occurs... to some degree.
