Docks banned on lake's north side
Decision upsets some residents on Lake Cadillac

Mackey's father, Harvey Pell, and other residents of the Kenwood Park plat received letters from the city late last month that said docks will not be allowed in the neighborhood on the north side of Lake Cadillac.
"The piece of land between the road and lake is clearly identified for public use," city manager Peter Stalker said. "We haven't imposed any new rules. We found it is considered public park land, and under the current code, docking is prohibited."

Residents ask for reprieve on docks

McCurdy said council was "handcuffed" from taking action by the city charter of 1976, which prohibited the sale of any city land to residents without popular vote.
The only alternative, McCurdy believes, is to seek a charter amendment. An amendment requires 15 percent of the registered voters in Cadillac to sign a petition, then the matter would go to popular vote. It would require a 60 percent majority to be passed.
