I am looking for info on how much live bird work you need to do to train your dog after the initial training you do in your yard etc- before you actually hunt over him/her. Do you have to have access to pen birds of some sort or is wild birds OK. Also does a pointer need more live bird work that a flusher?

There is no such thing as too much live bird work... Most would prefer wild, but initially pen birds planted can create more "ideal" contacts for checkcord work etc.

Pointer or Flusher... good luck on that answer!

If your dog will whoa and come on command your ready to go. Leave the check cord at home if wild birds, bring it if pen-raised. I'm assuming you've already introduced birds in the yard?

I've never trained a flusher, so I can't help you on that one.
